According to Resolution No. 1958 of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) from January 2011, "medical consultation comprises anamnesis, physical examination and elaboration of hypotheses or diagnostic conclusions, requesting complementary examinations, when necessary, and therapeutic prescription as complete medical act and that can be completed or not in a single moment ".

When there is a need for complementary tests, which can not be assessed during the same consultation, the act will continue for its completion with the time determined at the discretion of the physician, not generating a fee.

However, changes in signs or symptoms that require a new anamnesis, physical examination, hypothesis or diagnostic conclusion and therapeutic prescription, by definition are considered "new consultations" even if they are about the same theme or disease. In this way, the procedure must be remunerated.
